Murphy: Murf the Smurf

Murphy is a sweet and energetic Beagle (possibly mixed with some Bassett) that’s between the age of two and three. He’s up to date on vaccinations, is HW negative, is micro-chipped and neutered. He’s also potty trained and crate trained, even though the crate is not his favorite place to be. He will go and will stay there, but he LOVES it the most when he can come out of the kennel and be with his humans.

Murphy is full of personality and charisma. In his own words, Murphy would like to tell you a bit about himself:

Hello potential forever homes! My name is Murphy but sometimes my foster mom calls me Murf the Smurf or Smurfy. I don’t know why, but she tells me that I remind her of a smurf b/c I’m cute and sweet and have a round belly. Speaking of bellies, I came into foster care weighing a few extra pounds. I weigh 38 pounds (and I think I’m perfect) but the vet says I need to lose about 5 pounds, so I’m working on that with foster mom.

Since I’m a Beagle, I do live through my nose. I always have to jump up to smell what’s in my human’s hands, and I counter surf (but the counter is taller than I am so I can’t reach anything). Foster mom is teaching me “down”. She says I’m really smart b/c I’m doing better about that.

When I first came into foster care, I was scared and anxious and really wouldn’t lay down and relax. As I’ve gotten use to things, I have learned that couches are so comfy to sleep on and that belly rubs are the best. I have learned to sit, even though I have a wiggly butt the whole time I’m sitting. I’m food motivated so foster mom is using treats to keep teaching me things.

My foster home has five other dogs and I get along with all of them. There’s a Husky/Beagle mix that’s about my age and I LOVE to play with her all the time!!!! I have gotten along with every dog I’ve met and foster mom says that while I could be a great only dog, having a playmate would probably make me happy and help keep me occupied. And while I’m young and have energy, it’s not puppy like energy. If you are busy and like to go for walks or be outside, I would love to be by your side. I can also be content laying by your side if you’re just chilling in the house.

I’ve met lots of people and foster mom says that I would do just fine with kids of any age. There are no kids in the foster home under the age 10, but there are lots of teens running around. Foster mom believes that I would do well with a young busy, active family or one that’s not so busy. I love to go for walks, but still pull on the leash (b/c there are just SOOOO many smells that I love to smell).

Foster mom says I am really happy guy that would make a great companion for the right family. Is that you? I would love to meet you and show how sweet and handsome I am!
