Dylan is a young (about 2 years old) beagle mix (with basset?), weighing about 30 lbs who is very playful, very energetic and very vocal! He’s a little on the big side for a beagle, but thinks he’s the perfect sized lapdog. Dylan is a natural at playing fetch, and is pretty good at giving the ball back to you when he retrieves it (“give” seems to be a natural command he will usually obey when you want the ball or toy back). He has a good temperament around other dogs and does well with cats and with children, though he may be a bit big and energetic for children younger than ten. But he would make a great companion and playmate for a child!
On the negative side, because he is energetic and quite vocal, he would not be a good fit for an apartment dweller; he needs a good fenced yard to romp and play in. He is not well-trained on a leash, wanting to pull, so a harness may be best for walks. He does not seem food aggressive and he has a soft mouth when taking offered treats. Dylan may have suffered some trauma early on. Though there seems to be no physical reason for it, he is sensitive about the underside of his front legs (his armpits, essentially). If someone tries to lift him up or move him by placing hands there, he may yelp and perhaps nip. It seems indicative of early abuse. He can also be stubborn about moving if he has stolen your spot on the sofa!
Dylan has been given a clean bill of health and is up-to-date with all vaccinations. Overall, he seems as healthy as a horse and has many, many years of love to share with the right family!
